Let's build a big wall

Otherwise those pesky millionaires will just avoid tax by emigrating once they're rich.

The millionaire who, when his fortune is made, goes to live in the Isle of Man, is a tax dodger.

So we're going to stop people from leaving the country now? This is the United Kingdom, not the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. If someone wants to leave, we let them. If another country wants to admit them, we let them.

While Ritchie says we'll just tax them even if they leave, that only demonstrates his fruitbattery. The point is, we're a free country, and that means our people are free to leave, if they want to.

  1. No carrots in Mr. Murphy's world. Only sticks, even when manifestly the object of his righteous ire is out of reach and thumbing his nose.

Mr. Murphy doesn't believe in freedom of any sort and his standards are double; baby-eaters are always evil and the goodies have their reasons for bad behaviour.

There is I feel a profound hatred and envy in part of our society for everybody who actually creates the wealth that others so much like to spend (invest is too good a word for most of the expenditures).

Our motives are always simple: out-and-out greed. People talk to me about their bad experiences, normally with bosses, sometimes with business owners. It clashes so much with what I see everyday in my dealings with hundreds of other business owners/top managers (and I mean top) I meet. I see worry, responsibility, desire to create, passion for what they do, innovation, creativity, care (but having to take the truly tough decisions that others can't even begin to understand without pleasure but assuming the responsibility) and a somewhat more pleasant attitude to their own situation than somebody like Mr Crow of London Transport fame.

A passion for one's own saintly motives and a ridiculous pastiche representation of one dimensional cartoon hate figures. I have met thieves and scoundrels in business (yes, among employees too), in politics (both sides of the political divide) and in unions. Should I ascribe the worst characteristics automatically to all members of the three groups? Don't do it to me and I won't do it to you.

I cannot remember when, if ever, I have agreed with Mr. Murphy, but why does that make me greedy. I have a different way (more effective, just and equitable in my opinion) of raising the living standards of the poor (world-wide and not in a parochial, my members, this country scheme of things). I need facts, recognise that I will never know everything and am will to consider other possibilities when the evidence convinces. This makes me worthy of his scorn, hatred and disdain. Oh to be all-seeing and wise! Would that this Christmas, the gift I receive be one of a socially intelligent, honest and caring person. Then I will be able to hold my head up high.
